Ajax Cape Town are set to lose influential midfielder Mulekelayi Kanku, who has attracted interest from overseas clubs.

The DRC midfielder has been a revelation since joining the team from TP Mazembe in 2003. He even scored some vital goals during his three-season stay at the Cape Town-based team.

"I can confirm that Kanku will definitely not be with us next season, but I cannot reveal any details about his next move right now," Ajax PRO Thabiso 'Shooz' Mekuto told his club's official website.

New Ajax Cape Town coach Muhsin Ertugral has requested that all transfers be put on hold so that he can assess everybody first. This means Brett Evans is staying for now.

Kick Off broke the news in its latest edition that Maritzburg United were very interested in bringing the former School of Excellence player back to play in his hometown this season.

But Evans reveals that Ertugral’s plan is to assess each and every player first when the team assembles for pre-season in the first week of July.

“I’m happy to start fresh with the new coach and I will take it from there, but there is interest from Maritzburg too,” Evans says.

Dikgang Mabalane appears to have made a u-turn with regards to a move to Ajax Cape Town and is said to be holding talks with Maritzburg United.

Ajax boss John Comitis says the Supersport United star no longer wants to join them, adding that the midfielder also has high wage demands.

Maritzburg United boss Farouk Kadodia confirmed that they are holding talks with the player and will be negotiating with Supersport soon.

Granwald Scott’s injury could end all hopes he had of a transfer to Ajax Amsterdam.

Ironically, the Ajax Cape Town midfielder sustained the injury whilst on trial at the Dutch giants two months ago.

“It’s my dream to go and play overseas one day and when the chance to go for trials at Ajax came, I was very excited,” the 18-year-old told the club’s official website.

“But I didn’t know that luck would desert me when I needed it most. I got injured in my first training session with Ajax and I never recovered from that injury until now.

“The worst thing about my situation is that the Ajax technical team did not get the chance to see me in action and chances of me joining our mother team are very slim.”

However, the midfielder has not given up on his dream of pulling on the Ajax Amsterdam jersey.

“I have not given up hope of playing for Ajax Amsterdam yet and I believe that another chance will come my way in the future and I intend to grab that one with both hands,” he added.

Fanteni enjoying life under Ertugral

Ajax Cape Town striker Thembinkosi 'Terror' Fanteni says that the Urban Warriors players are responding positively to newly-appointed coach Muhsin Ertugral.

During his spell with Kaizer Chiefs Ertugral gained a reputation as being somewhat of a fiery character, who was often seen throwing fits of rage on the sidelines and even resorted to kicking chairs around on occasion.

However, Fanteni says that Ertugral is far more relaxed than many people are lead to believe.

“I am really enjoying training with the new coach. He is very relaxed, and not as I thought he would be, I was quite surprised,” Fanteni said

"I hope that Ajax fans will see the best of me under Ertugral and my aim is to score 20 goals this season and try fight my way into the Bafana squad,” added the player who missed six months last season with Tuberculosis.

Despite the fact that SAFA are looking to employ former Brazil manager Carlos Alberto Parreira as the Bafana Bafana coach, Fanteni is adamant that they need look no further than former mentor Gordon Igesund.

“A local coach like Igesund should be given the chance, I believe that he understands our players well and would be best suited to the job as foreign coaches do not always understand the mentalities of our players,” he said.

Ajax Cape Town have announced the signing of top Greek midfielder Christos Kostis on a one-year deal with an option to renew.

The 34-year-old had been training with the 'Urban Warriors' for several weeks and is now, officially, an Ajax player.

Speaking at a press conference in Cape Town on Wednesday, Ajax CEO John Comitis said Kostis would add value to the team.
