End of Coca-Cola CupSoft drink giants Coca-Cola has decided not to renew their sponsorship contract with the Premier Soccer League (PSL), thus ending their sponsorship of the Coca-Cola Cup competition.
However, PSL CEO Trevor Phillips, who is currently in London, said that the competition will continue this season, but under a new name and new sponsors.
“I don’t foresee any problems in finding another sponsor,” says Phillips, “and I expect we will be able to secure the same kind of money that made the Cup one of the richest club knock-out tournaments on the African continent.”
Coca-Cola’s marketing assets manager, Firoze Bhorat, however, insisted that soccer remained “a fundamental component of the company’s strategy.”
