Essien shrugs off star statusMichael Essien insists he and Ghana captain Stephen Appiah do not feel any extra pressure going into the World Cup.
As Ghana's best-known players, Essien and Appiah carry the hopes of the nation as the Black Stars makes their World Cup debut.
But Essien claims the pair do not feel added responsibility as they prepare for their opening game against European heavyweights Italy on Monday.
"Everyone is talking about me and Stephen, and I think we'll do our best for the team," said the Chelsea star.
"I don't think we have any pressure on us though. We have nothing to lose in the World Cup so we'll just go in and play our football."
Ghana are also up against the Czech Republic and the USA in Group E.
