Heavy punishment for OkwonkoOrlando Pirates midfielder Onyekachi Okonkwo appeared briefly before the Premier Soccer League (PSL) DC on Monday, August 14 at 17h30, to answer charges of inter-alia, bringing the Premier Soccer League (PSL), sponsors, the South African Football Association (SAFA), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), into disrepute.
Okwonko was found guilty as charged and consequently punished as follows:
1. Suspended for one Castle Premiership fixture, as of Thursday, August 24 2006.
2. Liable to pay the total sum of R30 000, of which R10 00 is payable with immediate effect. The remaining R20 000 is suspended for 12 months.
3. Must submit a written apology to Mr. Daniel Bennett by 16.00 Friday, August 25 2006.
4. Submit a written apology to the PSL and other institutional stakeholders.
5. Complete an Anger Management course at an accredited institution within 90 days. Okwonko is also expected to submit an official Certificate of Attendance to the
PSL, failing of which the suspended R20 000 will become effective.
6. Okwonko was also ordered to pay the full costs of the two sittings for the case.
Furthermore the club was cautioned and discharged, as it was charged vicariously.
