Kaizer Chiefs News and Transfer RumoursGolden Arrows’ Papi Zothwane says he is waiting for Kaizer Chiefs’ manager Bobby Motaung to return from London so that he can complete negotiations for a move to the Amakhosi.
The talented midfielder, whose contract with Abafana Bes’thende ends in June, says he was due to finalise talks in Durban last week, but a scheduled meeting did not materialise.

Bobby confirmed that he is talking to Siyabonga Nkosi, but said nothing has been finalised as of now.
He reported that a final announcement will be made in the next week or two, also regarding about 5 to 7 players who will be transferred or loaned.
He also alluded to the fact that Chiefs are interested in Mbesuma, but may not afford him financewise.
Anyone with the latest rumours?

Bafana Bafana midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi revealed that he is headed for Kaizer Chiefs and says Bloemfontein Celtic have only themselves to blame for losing him, following a late bid by the Celtic management to retain his services.
“This is so late and I really can’t understand why they are doing this to me,” he said. “They are sending the wrong message to their fans when they say I am not prepared to stay, when they know very well they dragged their feet in finalising a new deal.
“You see I approached them about a new contract in December and also told them some teams are offering me big bucks. But they only showed seriousness after the Silver Stars game (Celtic’s last game of the season) and that was unfair to me to turn around, because before going for trials in the Ukraine, I had long ago made up my mind about the team I will join should things not go my way overseas.

After agonising over a last-gasp, vastly improved new offer from Bloemfontein Celtic, Siyabonga Nkosi is expected today to announce a decision regarding his future as a Kaizer Chiefs player.
Weekend newspaper reports suggested the Celtic and Bafana Bafana midfielder would remain in Bloemfontein after management made one final, much-improved offer from Bloemfontein Celtic.
This last ditch bid by Celtic to keep their star player appears to have failed however, and Nkosi is expected to announce today that he has signed for Chiefs.

Papi Zothwane was spotted at Kaizer Chiefs’ offices yesterday morning, and sources at the club reveal that he is now a Khosi for Life.
The Golden Arrows’ midfielder has been a Chiefs target for a while now and according to sources he is expected to be unveiled with the club’s other new signings today.
Another midfield star Siyabonga Nkosi, who has joined the Amakhosi from Bloemfontein Celtic, is also likely to be paraded.
Zothwane’s agent Thami Xulu says they will go public about his client’s new club on Thursday(today).

We will be trashing every team like there is no tomorrwo come the new season.
That is why Middendorp referred to Chiefs game against Pirates in the upcoming Vodacom challenge as a "small business".
Chiefs will be having deadly combinations such that not winning silverware will not have any excuses.

Papi Zothwane’s move to Kaizer Chiefs may hit the snag after revelations by Golden Arrows that he is still their player.
This emerged just after the lanky midfielder was paraded by Chiefs in Jozi as one of their new signees for next season.
Arrows’ co-boss Mato Madlala told Kick Off: “You see Papi’s current contract ends in June 31 and he has another one in which he committed himself to a long-term contract with us and we don’t understand how he claims to have signed for Chiefs while he still belongs to us. We are prepared to take this matter to court if need be.”
Madlala also revealed the club’s lawyer Michael Murphy is currently handling the matter.
Zothwane refuted Arrows’ claims, saying he did not sign any new contract with the club.
“I was surprised when they told me this week that I am contracted to them. I know absolutely nothing about that and I am already looking forward to starting a new life at Chiefs,” he told Kick Off.

Papi Zothwane says Golden Arrows have themselves to blame for losing his services.
After learning that the talented midfield star had signed for Kaizer Chiefs, Arrows came out and said Zothwane’s transfer is invalid because apart from the one that ended in June 30, he has another contract with them.
This has led the Durban team to task lawyer Michael Murphy to handle the issue, with Chiefs also said to be rolling up their sleeves in preparation for the next step, which will be legal proceedings.
Zothwane says he does not understand Arrows’ statement that he has got a new contract with them, saying they must just leave him to further his career at his new club.
“You see the Arrows people are liars. I think they are just making this new contract thing up because they thought I was going to stay. But look bra, maybe I would have stayed had we concluded the talks myself and my agent had with Mato Madlala last month,” he tells Kick Off.
“After meeting her over the renewal of my contract, there was no continuation of talks with Arrows. I then decided it was wise to move because I could not understand why Arrows were not responding to our calls for another meeting. They blew the chance away and now they are making this contract thing up.”
The former Maritzburg City and SA U-23 international added he was looking forward to a new challenge at the Amakhosi.
“It’s been my childhood dream to play for Chiefs and now that this has been realized, despite Arrows’ attempts to stop me, I have pledged to work hard in order to get game time. I should be thanking Arrows for the chance they gave me, but now this,” he says.

Veteran midfielder John Moshoeu and Kaizer Chiefs have finally parted ways.
Confirming this, 40-year-old ‘Shoes’ tells Kick Off that he has finally come to the realisation that his dream of ending his career with Amakhosi will not happen.
Moshoeu did not want to commit himself and say where he would end up now that he is a free agent.
“I need to make a decision that I will not live to regret; it must be the right move, to a place where I share a common goal with those that I work with.
“However, no matter what decision I take it could turn ugly later, but then on the other hand, to be successful you need to take risks in life otherwise you may live to regret the opportunities you do no take.
“It may be a blessing in disguise for Chiefs that I will no longer be with them. Maybe they will achieve more now than when I was with them. I wish them well because I felt bad being a part of the team, getting a salary and not playing.
“One thing I do regret is the fact that we did not play the entertaining, carpet football that Amakhosi are known for.”
Moshoeu says it does not make a difference if he joins a big or a small team.
“When I started off playing, it was with Giant Blackpool and even in those days we challenged and beat Chiefs and Swallows on the odd occasion.”
“I hope wherever I play my contribution will be for the benefit to those around me. I think my biggest disappointment in life is that I am judged on my age and not what I can offer on the field.”
Moshoeu says he tried desperately hard to get more game time at Chiefs and feels he was treated unfairly, however, he respects Ernst Middendorp’s decision not play him and to allow him to leave to pursue his career elsewhere.

Moshoeu should have just played his cards cleverly and retire while at Chiefs maybe they could have given him a post within their teams structures.
It is wise to do it the Dumitru way:leave while you are still hot.Do not wait to be forced out because of not being able to deliver anymore.

Zulu Royals revealed that they are keen on signing former Kaizer Chiefs star John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu.
The club, who have bought Dynamos’ PSL status, tried holding talks with the midfielder last week, but Moshoeu was out of the country.
“We are definitely interested in signing Shoes,” PRO James Dlamini told Kick Off.
“I also want to squash rumours that we are interested in Jabulani Mendu. We have no interest in the player.”
Dlamini also revealed that they have axed striker Ishmael Maluleke and long-serving midfielder Innocent ‘Bashin’ Mhlangu, stating that their technical staff did not need the duo’s services anymore.
“They both served the team well and we are grateful to have had them, but the coaching staff felt they did not produce what they will need in the coming season,” said Dlamini.
He added that the futures of midfield ace Andile Cele and captain Piwe Sigwili will be decided soon.
“Their contracts with the club ended last Friday, but negotiations are underway. We are hopeful to retain their services because we still value their contribution very highly,” he added.

Mara DGT you and most people who always expect Chiefs to employ its former players especially those who served the team till retirement are unfair.
How can Chiefs manage such a task. Give me any one team in the whole world who practice such.
Chiefs has given enough ex-players such as Ntsie, Doctor, Ace Khuse, Malombo, ACE (RIP) a chance but they cannot do it with all of them.

Kick Off can exclusively reveal that former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic striker Rotson Kilambe has signed a two-year deal with Kaizer Chiefs.
Kick Off’s website was first to reveal that Kilambe had been spotted at Johannesburg International airport being fetched by Chiefs officials on Friday night.
This was posted on the website on Saturday and after following up the story, the transfer has now been confirmed to Kick Off by a close source to the player.
The former Zambian international is seen as cover for former Bafana Bafana striker Shaun Bartlett.
However, Chiefs’ team manager Bobby Motaung revealed that Kilambe is currently training with the side, but insisted that no deal has been done yet.

Papi Zothwane will only know his fate on September 3rd, when his appeal will be heard, whether he is a Kaizer Chiefs or Golden Arrows player.
The midfielder is appealing against the findings that he had allegedly signed an extension to his Golden Arrows contract, which would effectively hold him at the club until 2011.
Zothwane signed a deal with Kaizer Chiefs earlier this year, but his hopes of joining the Amakhosi was shattered when Arrows claimed that he was still their player.
Hand-writing experts were called in to verify the documents Zothwane claimed he never signed, and the experts found that it was the player’s signature on the documents.
He had since appealed the decision and will have to wait until next week to know about his future.

The ongoing saga between Papi Zothwane and Golden Arrows is set to come to an end this week, according to the player’s representative Themba Langa.
The player’s appeal was heard yesterday by four adjudicators, who will pass judgment later this week.
However, Langa revealed that Zothwane is hoping for a successful appeal, so that he can continue with his career.
“We are hopeful that it will be successful and the adjudicators have promised to pass judgment by this coming Friday,” Langa told Kick Off.

Kaizer Chiefs’ disciplinary hearing has been postponed until October 10 by the PSL’s disciplinary committee in Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.
The matters surround the unsavory events which took place at the end of their 1-0 loss to Bidvest Wits in a Castle Premiership fixture at the FNB Stadium last week Wednesday, when Amakhosi supporters ripped the seats from the stands to throw onto the pitch, and at their own players and coaching staff.
PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu revealed to Kick Off that Kaizer Chiefs were also informed that further charges could be brought against them at the hearing next month, relating to incidents during their SAA Supa8 semifinal win over Moroka Swallows last Sunday.

Chiefs call for ‘love and peace’
Kaizer Chiefs fans have been encouraged to live up to the club’s slogans of ‘Amakhosi 4 life’ and ‘Love & Peace’, when attending Saturday’s key Castle Premiership match against Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium.
Saturdays’ clash is expected to attract a horde of Amakhosi Faithful.
The promising form shown by players like Derrick Spencer and David Radebe in recent games has given coach Ernst Middendorp reason to believe that Chiefs are on the brink of finding the match rhythm and consistency that they are known for.
“I believe that the team is improving in key departments with every game that they play,” says Middendorp, who will also be expecting a polished performance from defender and team captain Cyril Nzama, in his 200th appearance for the Amakhosi if selected.
In an effort to prevent a re-occurrence of the recent skirmish in Chiefs’ match against Bidvest Wits University, more than 600 security staff will be on duty to ensure a safe environment.
As part of the build-up to the big match, the Kaizer Chiefs Legends will play against the Kaizer Chiefs Celebrities team (13h15 kick off).
The Legends’ squad will include the Shongwe brothers, goalkeeper William and striker Abel, midfielders Johannes ‘Chippa’ Molatedi and Donald ‘Ace’ Khuse and defender Ryder Mofokeng.
The Celebrity squad includes kwaito music star Kabelo, Muvhango star Dingaan Mokebe, Isidingo actor Meshack Mavuso and boxer Hawk Makepula.
Match tickets are on sale at Computicket outlets at R20 (adults) and R10 for juveniles.

Phenomenon that is Chiefs
Arguably South Africa's leading sporting brand, ahead of even Bafana Bafana and the Springboks
Clinton van der Berg and Mzimasi Mgebisa
They are calling it Operation Teka Hinkwaso. The clean sweep.
Kaizer Chiefs, the most vivid and rampant of African sporting teams, are in familiar territory: more trophies, more glories lie in wait. On Saturday, the first leg of the African Cup-winners Cup (aka Mandela Cup) final beckons at InterClube in Luanda.
A week later, Amakhosi go in pursuit of the Coca-Cola Cup against either Jomo Cosmos or Sundowns. The two meet in the semifinal in Rustenburg this afternoon. Then, on December 1, they host Inter for the return leg of the Mandela Cup.
Chiefs are, in any estimation, one of the great institutions of South African sporting life. A rhythmic confluence of passion, leadership, glamour and success, Chiefs are arguably the country's leading sports brand. Bigger than even Bafana and the Boks, Chiefs are that rarest of things: a phenomenon.
Officials at club headquarters in Naturena, south-west of Johannesburg, suggest they have at least 12-million supporters across southern Africa, possibly more.
The only team that could possibly compare is Orlando Pirates, their fiercest rivals.
When Primedia bought 40% of the club for R40-million three years ago, they were envisaged as the club's partners for public listing.
"Listing is questionable at this point," says larger than life chairman Kaizer Motaung, who owns 60% of the club. "The main reason for us to list is our supporters. After we've explored the idea, we'll look at it as the ultimate action in our plans."
Last estimates put a value on the Kaizer Chiefs brand of R200-million, and this is excluding the price of international-class players like Jabu Pule (priced at R30-million), Stanton Fredericks and Nhlanhla Khubeka .
Internet winners
Their Internet site registers over half-a-million users a month - more than three times that of rugby's Sharks, and displaces the Egyptian national team website as the biggest sporting site on the continent - and Chiefs' merchandise outstrips all of rugby's.
In terms of more tangible success, 67 trophies in 31 years is a mark of their greatness.
Assessing this phenomenon, three factors emerge as the raison d'≖tre: Motaung, the visionary; the unflinching loyalty of Chiefs' supporters and the sustained excellence of players.
Indeed, legends are created in the famous gold-and-black strip.
Ace Ntsoelengoe, Teenage Dladla, longest-serving skipper Ryder Mofokeng, Doctor Khumalo and even the emperor himself, Motaung, became not so much household names as sporting superstars playing for the Soweto giants.
Khumalo, still South Africa's No 1 sports icon, believes their success stems less from their big-name players than expert management.
"If the head is good, the body can function," said the veteran after a training session at Naturena this week.
If Khumalo is more a symbol of the recent past, it is left to players like Pule and Thabiso Malatsi to shape the future.
This Chiefs vintage is top-heavy with players who have emerged from the club's development programme. And Chiefs even have an alliance with Rand Afrikaans University to ensure the youngsters are schooled and well looked after.
In a few months, Naturena will boast housing for the next wave of Chiefs wannabes. This is where the seat of the Amakhosi empire is found.
Despite blacks not being allowed officially to purchase property in the area 14 years ago, Motaung did just that.
He had a vision and from that vision has sprung a world-class training facility and HQ valued at R30-million.
The grounds are immaculate and the adjacent offices could have come straight from Sandton. Next year, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, swimming pool, indoor arena, tennis courts and accommodation will be built.
"World-class," says Muhsin Ertugral, their urbane coach and a man who has seen the best of it at clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon .
Star team
"Chiefs enjoy massive support," says the Turkish-born German, "but this isn't surprising because major clubs the world over enjoy this level of support. We have supporters all over southern Africa."
Ertugral is uncomfortable with the idea that the stars make the team what it is.
For him, the stars are a media creation.
"The star is the team," he insists. "We don't have many heroes in this country, so people idolise the team ."
This isn't some mad-cap coaching philosophy designed to deflect pressure on his big-name players, though.
"The idea of stars went out in the 1980s," says Ertugral dismissively. "Even Zidane and Figo are team players."
Rather than lavish praise on his employers, Ertugral equates the Chiefs phenomenon to a company like IBM - "where you need back-up from head office, otherwise you're gone".
Despite having already won four trophies in his tenure, he still sees weaknesses .
Much like the rest of South African football, Chiefs players have very specific failings in areas like flexibility, speed, power and endurance.
"They're like mosaic stones . . . if one isn't there, you can't reach the highest level."
What further disappoints Ertugral, particularly as a foreigner, is that Chiefs' most visible support comes almost exclusively from black people. Chiefs have a sprinkling of white supporters, but they aren't nearly as plentiful as they should be.
"We need to sit together and find solutions," says Ertugral.
Indeed, the capturing of white, Indian and coloured fans is a prime target for the marketing honchos at Chiefs.
Italian-born Emy Casaletti-Page is the Kaizer Chiefs brand manager, having been involved with the club since 1988.
"It's a big part of our strategy," she says, "because our biggest competitor is Manchester United. The only way to change that (and to win over white, Indian and coloured supporters) is on the field.
"Slowly we are changing that with our success."
Casaletti-Page ascribes Chiefs' ascent to glory to Motaung's power of personality.
"He co-founded the club 31 years ago and it took quality leadership to hold it together."
For Putco Mafani, the most visible and helpful of spin doctors, success has also arisen from two other fronts: the supporters and players.
The loyalty of fans is extraordinary. They plaster their gear with the names of sponsors - "if it's good for Chiefs, it's good for us" - and that brand loyalty extends to purchasing sponsors' products.
"Guys with makalaka head gear had the Nissan sign painted on themselves three days after the deal went public," explains Mafani.
"And Chiefs' supporters are supporters for life."
And, it seems, in death.
The Ellis Park tragedy in April struck at the very core of Chiefs, but for people like Motaung, Mafani and Casaletti-Page, the deaths served to pull Chiefs' supporters even closer together.
Says Mafani: "Our supporters believe that when something bad happens, something good is on the way. They haven't turned their backs on us."
It helped that Motaung was at the forefront of visiting grieving families. All 43 of the funerals were attended by Chiefs representatives.
It may seem incongruous, but the Chiefs brand was also extended through the tragedy. Global media coverage saw to that.
Apartheid influence
It is no coincidence that Chiefs remained strong during the height of apartheid. Motaung was asked to support a rebel tour, but he refused. He was no sell-out and, besides, Chiefs would have suffered.
"(During those years) Chiefs gave people hope," says Casaletti-Page. "Chiefs have always been aspirational. Our supporters aspire to the glamour and success of the 'Glamour Boys'. It has become a very powerful slogan."
Motaung has been central to Chiefs' sustained success. He is open to ideas and he empowers his managers.
"Sharing responsibilities and delegating powers is a matter of business principle," says Motaung. "You can't execute everything yourself. You have to allow people to implement their ideas to get maximum results."
Excellent youth development structures, says Motaung, will sustain the club's success.
"We have to ensure continuity. Some players are likely to go overseas, so we must have a succession plan."
In Farouk Khan, the head of youth development, Chiefs have one of the best youth policy specialists around. He learned the art from Brazilian World Cup-winning coaches Carlos Alberto Parreira and Mario Zagallo, and the former SA director of coaching, Ted Dumitru.
Supporters' clubs
As the first team to buy players from beyond Johannesburg, it was only natural that Chiefs' supporters base should extend way beyond the confines of Gauteng.
Buying players like Justice Sithole, who comes from Newcastle, also effectively seals a good number of satellite supporters .
With 226 official supporters' clubs spread throughout southern Africa, Chiefs have a good chunk of the market.
"We are inundated with proposals for more. Apart from formal branches, there are sub-branches that have mushroomed," says Mafani.
"Our supporters are probably even more important than the players. You can lose a player two years down the line, but a supporter is for life. We like to look after them."
Chiefs may be the kings of the mountain, but others see them simply as fat cats.
Chiefs' dozen frontline sponsorships, among them Standard Bank, Vodacom, Nike and Acer, amount to more than R40-million combined annually. This has created a "them and us" feeling among lesser clubs - but Mafani makes no apologies for their success.
"Most local owners and clubs still have to see the world. Our challenges are big, which is why we must think globally. We have to measure ourselves against the big teams."
If Chiefs are the brand-leaders, management have worked aggressively to market their sub-brands: the players.
"They can attach greater value to the club in terms of endorsements," explains Mafani. "We ensure our plans intertwine very carefully off the field with what goes on the field.
"If the coach isn't ready to break through with a particular player, we won't push it. The player won't be aggressively marketed before time."
Overseas trends
Another important reason for Chiefs' success is the club's exposure to overseas trends.
Motaung sends his staff to the annual Football Expo in Cannes and visits to cutting-edge clubs like Manchester United and Leeds are regular occurrences. They also study other sports, like cricket and rugby.
"We aren't behind at all in terms of our thinking," says Casaletti-Page. "The real difference is in size."
Having adopted a new slogan - Amakhosi 4 Life - Chiefs are confident about the future.
"Part of our plan is to become an African football brand and be globally recognised," says Casaletti-Page. "The only way to do this is through African club competitions, which lead to global competitions.
"Building our brand through Africa leads to licensing and merchandising success.
"There's no room for complacency. Part of our strategy is to make every single game an event. We like to see ourselves as the leaders."
Now and in the future.

Scara's rumourRumour has it that Emmanuel "Scara" Ngobese will be wearing white and black. This is the disappointing news if theres any truth to it. Everyone knows that SSport wouldn't have walked over Chiefs had Scara was in the field.

Remember Bucs are considering buy a Mvela club.So some of the players will play in the Mvela club.If anything happens pirates find themselves relegated there'll be a team waiting to push them up again.

Heh, guys, whats that about ...
shouldnt that just be the job of a resrve league ..
U know that would lead to too much time put away from the MAIN team, plus so much admin needed ...
what if the two teams play each other in a final ..
TOTAL conflict of intrest there ...

kaizer chiefs awardsMotaung Junior deserved all those awards. As for Serge most improved player I doubt. Just because he score three to four goals at the end of the season. Atleast Mototo could have been graced with that award. and Nkosi does'nt deserve any award this season instead they should have given Ngobese, because he won us the only SAA Supa 8 cup.

Kaizer Chiefs’ striker Serge Djiehoua has delayed his off-season visit back to the Ivory Coast because he is still waiting to hear from the Amakhosi management whether his services will be needed next season.
Djiehoua said he is aware of earlier reports that he may be offloaded from Naturena at the end of this season and as such had called Bobby Motaung to clarify his future before boarding a flight back home to see his family.
“I am still waiting for Bobby to return my call. Hopefully, I will be able to meet him this week so that I go home next week.
“I picked up a number of injuries after arriving at the team but I was happy with the way my performance picked up towards the end of the season.”
