Limpopo Soccer Challenge

Chiefs beat Leopards

Kaizer Chiefs beat Black Leopards 1-0 in the Limpopo Soccer Challenge at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday morning to qualify for the final later against either Dynamos or Mozambique side Costa Do Sol.

The only goal was scored in the 37th minute by David Obua when Chiefs were awarded a free kick and Siyabonga Nkosi passed the ball to Obua who scored with a stunning left-footed shot.

This was a match that was typical pre-season football with both sides struggling at the start to string passes together but as the game went on both teams improved.

In the second half Leopards were denied by the bar and in the 90th minute a shot hit the Chiefs upright after a goalmouth scramble.

Chiefs used new signings Siyabonga Nkosi and Shaun Bartlett who both had some decent touches.

Dynamos face Chiefs in Final

Dynamos beat Costa Do Sol 5-4 on penalties after the sides were scoreless after 90 minutes and will now face Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the Limpopo Soccer Challenge later at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Mozambique side played well in the first half and had a number of good scooring opportunities but poor finishing cost them.

The second half was rather dull with few clear-cut scoring opportunities.

In the penalty shootout Dynamos keeper Swadick Sanudi made two saves to give his side the 5-4 win. The Costa Do Sol saved one penalty kick.

Chiefs win Limpopo Soccer Challenge

Kaizer Chiefs beat Dynamos 1-0 to win the Limpopo Soccer Challenge at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.
The only goal came in the 40th minute after an exchange of passes, the ball was put through for David Mathebula to run onto and score with a shot from in front of goal to put his side 1-0 up.

Chiefs were by far the superior side having more possession throughout and always looking the more likely to score and had they taken their chances could have won by at least three goals.

Dynamos never looked like troubling Chiefs throughout and Chiefs were able to mix and match players in both matches played on the day.

New signings Shaun Bartlett and Siyabonga Nkosi were used in both games and both looked useful. David Obua played very well all afternoon and came close to scoring late in the second game when he put a shot over the bar.

Amakhosi won a trophy and R200 000 for winning the tournament.

Dynamos: Sanudi, Mtshali, Leshabane, Mabunda, Carelse, Galane, Mabasa (Dhlamini 46min), Opoku (Ogana 22 min), Mokgalushi, Mosito (Chimere 59min, Mkhabela 79 min), Gololo (Maleka 46 min)

Kaizer Chiefs: Fernandez, Sibeko, Spencer, McCarthy, Obua,
Mototo, Schalkwyk (Zwane 69 min), Mathebula (Ngobese 69 min), Nkosi, Bartlett, Radebe (Agyemang 46 min)
