Michel set for Ivory Coast exit

Henri Michel admits he is unlikely to remain as Ivory Coast boss beyond their final World Cup Group C match with Serbia & Montenegro on Wednesday night.

The African nation have impressed in tough games with Argentina and Holland despite 2-1 defeats in both matches signalling an early exit for the tournament debutants.

Frenchman Michel's contract expires this summer and he is not expecting it to be renewed.

"The Ivorian Soccer Federation did not ask to extend my contract, so for me it finishes with the match against the Serbians," said the 57-year-old coach.

"We could have done something great here but it turned out otherwise."

Michel insists his side are determined to end their maiden World Cup finals appearance on a high on Wednesday but he hit out at the standard of refereeing in Friday's defeat to Holland.

"This is a World Cup of regrets, especially with regard to the refereeing," he said.

"I watched the game against the Netherlands again last night and saw some very obvious mistakes.

"I am under the impression there is a favouritism for larger countries over smaller ones when it comes to refereeing."

Michel refused to be drawn on whether he would coach another African side after leaving his current job, saying: "I have given quite a lot to Africa already."
