Moriri the PSL`s best

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Surprise Moriri stole the spotlight at the evening when he walked away with both the PSL Player of the Season and Player’s Player of the Season.

The midfielder, who spear-headed Sundown’s campaign to win the league title and was their top scorer with a tally of 11 goals, beat favourite David Obua of Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic’s Siyabonga Nkosi.

Moriri went to the bank smiling after pocketing a hefty R160 000 - R100 000 for the player of the season and R60 000 for Player’s Player.

The biggest surprise of the night was when Silver Stars’ coach, Owen da Gama was named the Coach of the Season.

Eastern Cape referee, Andile “Ace” Ncobo scored a hat-trick last night when he was crowned as the Premier Soccer League Referee of the Season for the third time.

The Willowvale-born school principal, who won the award in 2002/03 and 2003/04 season respectively, was announced as the joint winner of the award along with referee Abdul Ebrahim.

Ncobo had initially planned to retire at the end of this season, but later had a change of heart.

Other winners:

Perfectly balanced team: Moroka Swallows
Assistant referee of the Season: Toko Malebo
Top goalscorer: Mame Niang
Supporters of the Season: Bloemfontein Celtic
Finest moment of the season (Goal of the Season): Esrom Nyandoro.

I am happy for surprise he really has raised the SA flag as this awards were mainly dominated by Foreghners.

On most balanced team of the season,I was surprised when they were not awarded as they had done much than many teams, including my own Swallows.

Well done also to Mame Niang. He just must improve on his attacking power and show hunger for goals.
