Santos’ veteran defender Edries Burton will not be retiring, as it was initially stated during the last season, but the defender concedes that the coming season will be his last.
Burton however admitted to Kick Off that he had already decided to hang up his boots after the past season, but the club’s technical staff persuaded him against his decision.
“But this coming season will surely be my last one, I need to concentrate on other things now,” the 39-year old says.
Burton’s fellow stalwart Jean-Marc Ithier (41) has already announced his retirement and has since been given a position as the team’s assistant coach for the next season.

Santos defender, Zvenyika Makonese, will be going back to France for another trial stint with Ligue 1 side Rennes soon after the World Cup finals.
One of the pillars of the South African Premiership side's defence, Makonese went for trials with Rennes last month and spent three days training with the club.
Nothing, however, was agreed between Santos and the French club which invited the player for another trial period.
According to Makonese's coach Roger De Sa, the French club said they wanted to have a one final look at the player before entering into negotiations with Santos over the player's transfer.
