The fact that He is bringing somebody to coach under 20 that will make him succesfull should SAFA keep him for long term it will be easy for players to fit in on national team structure.
The reason why we are struggling is Phumo has got his style,then Khompela when they go to national team its another different style.
Believe it or not fitting into a pattern can make life miserable to some players hence you find players excellin on club level and struggle on national level.
Henry is one of those players different player when playing for France than Arsenal.

We need uniformity throughout our ranks

Thers gonna be sum Clashes between the two sides .. (SA Coaches and Brazilians ...) but as I hear ... oStyles's contract is gonna expires soon so Parriera 's men are gonna take over fromthere ...

its gon take a while to sort things out as well .... believe it or not , Brazil and South Africa is not exatly the same in playing philopshy's .. and HOPEFULLY the languge barrier wont be an issue...

Long term .. I wonder if they will stay here THAT LONG cos they might want ot head back home , then WHERE o we benifit ?

the team he should be more concerned about is the U23. because some of the 2010 players will come from there. the U20 is just for the 2014 world cup and I don't think he will still be there by then.

th bad thing is , despite the tv coverage they hav .. its stil not THAT highprofile a team hey ...

I dont like their marketing strategy, its like theyr a 2nd team U know .. but whats your opinion on them ? ( U23/U20's) Cos it seems theyr a bright set of youngsters .. bu the prob is they also hav similar pobs when it comes to scoring .. I was watching amaHighlight last nyt ... SHOOO, they had like 12 celar chances , but they only won 1-0 ..

Hmmm, but 1 ting though , thy should be playing MUCH more often... thats Y id like iMvela to hav much of a development mandate .. playingmuch more young talent from local communites ... haveing more of a chance to play than anyother tym ..

Id say 2014 is whats gonna make our soccer ... cos after 2010, our occer has to fly .. we have to take that boost and go forward with a very experinced , well treained young tam with youngsters ...who know how to play ...the Benni's wont be around and the next world Cu is gonna be in South AMerica , away from home ..so

well ... guys , Parreira has had his media breefing with journalists .. I must say he has swayed me to being FULLY behind him , even although I was already behind him all along ...

SAFA's approach of one man fix isnt ideal, I think carlos realises that as well ...

but He's COMMITTED and wants to serve SA soccer ..

to him its a challenge to help BB become a force again ...and I can see what he means by that ...

Parreira opens door for Benni again

Bafana Bafana’s new national coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has opened the door for Benni McCarthy to come back into the fold.

Speaking at his first media briefing since arriving in the country last week Friday, Parreira said that he had an ‘open door’ policy on players, including McCarthy, and was not going rely on controversial statements about the striker but would rather have talks with the player himself.

Outlining his vision to build a ‘competent or world class Bafana’, the tough-talking Brazilian mentor said this would not be possible unless there was a national Under-20 league in place.

He said he found it disturbing that on his arrival in South Africa, he was told there is no such league to develop the players and that, in fact, there was no active junior league. He said there were even reports that said clubs were not serious in their concentration to develop future players.

“In Brazil, we have qualified coaches handling junior players ranging from Under-12 up to Under-20. They are all groomed for the senior National team and consequently, there are always replacements for players already in the senior team.”

He also said that the PSL rule on foreign players should be adjusted to three per team, so that more South Africans could have the opportunity of playing at a higher level.

Responding to questions, he said that if people were dreaming about a world class national team there was a need to follow what he advised about developing players.

“Players younger than 23 years of age should be part of the senior team. Exposing players at an early age to international games will give them the benefits of experience, but you must be patient with the process of rebuilding a team.”

The Brazilian added there was need for a strong structure with support from some local coaches, some of whom would have to go for further training.

He told the media that he had accepted the job, ahead of a number of other offers, not because of the money, but because he wanted to help lead an African country at the first soccer World Cup on the continent.

He added that working with local coaches would enable him to leave behind a legacy that would extend beyond 2010. He said he would help to identify players for the national team and was confident that he would fulfil his mandate of building a competent Bafana squad for 2010.

He stressed that he should be allowed to do his job freely and in his way.

He urged the media to encourage people to rally behind the team, not for his benefit, but for the team.

Safa’s first vice president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana, who was present at the briefing, said the coach would have a free hand to lead the country and that the organisation was happy "to acquire a world renowned coach whose track record of having led Brazil to the World Cup speaks volumes”.

players like Kaka dont just come from the streets and into club trials , JUST LIKE THAT .. theyr taken from an early age and trained PROPERLY! In clubs

when he's 19.. he's ready to play for a 1st team ... over here its age 25 when they mature ...

that Kaka goal .. if a player like Nomvete had to do the same he wouldnt have made it past the half way mark ..he'd have tripped or caught up by messi ...

So Im very pleased carlos is gonna FOCUS on our youngsters... we cant even name 2 players playing for the under 20's even .. WHEN do they play ...

U see playing the LEsotho's @home and winning 1-0 is kak ... thats NOT development and we lose these players ... the way we pic them even , they come for trials .. I mean WTF !?!?

They must come from identified clubs and have a progress report on them ...

But Im 1000% behind Parreira now .. He talks sense and its not even about the money (its small change comapred to anything else )

The media must STOP bullshyting the public as well..(ITS TREASON !!!) really we must get behind the team

Premier Soccer League CEO Trevor Phillips on Tuesday encouraged Carlos Alberto Parreira to "think out of the box" when it comes to preparing Bafana Bafana for World Cup 2010.

Phillips wants a radical plan implemented by the South African Football Association and Parreira that will see 22 home-based players taken away from their clubs and trained as a "Bafana Bafana XI" for the next four years.

It is a method that worked successfully for South Korea in their preparation for the 2002 World Cup, where as hosts they ended up reaching the semifinals under Dutch coach Guus Hiddink.

Phillips's comments came in the wake of Parreira's press conference on Tuesday, as the Brazilian for the first time addressed the media on his views on the state of the national game and his plans for 2010.

'In Brazil all clubs have a development structure'
Parreira described himself as "astonished" at the absence of Under-18, Under-20 and reserve leagues in club soccer.

"In Brazil all clubs have a development structure," he said

"In the last four years, 5 000 Brazilian players have been transferred overseas".

Parreira called on Safa and the PSL to begin implementing these changes as soon as possible. He also called on the amount of foreign players allowed in PSL sides to be reduced from five to three players.

Yet, frankly, it all smacked of stories already told, by Stuart Baxter and Carlos Queiroz, to name but two former Bafana coaches, stories which fell on nothing but deaf ears.

'We are one of those places where everything is a quick-fix'
"I've still got the Carlos Queiroz plan," said Santos coach Roger De Sa, who was Bafana's goalkeeper coach under Queiroz. "Nobody ever even looked at it."

With so many vested interests in South African club football, the general feeling is that Parreira's plans, like Queiroz, will not work.

"I have been fighting for a reserve league, but because it comes from Jomo it is no good, every time, they boycott it," said Jomo Cosmos coach Jomo Sono.

"We are one of those places where everything is a quick-fix," added De Sa. "Let's take our PSL coaches. What is the average length of a coaching contract? Two years? Why should a coach develop youth if he does not know if he is going to be around after a year or two? I worry about one man, he tells people what to do, and everyone thinks 'why must we listen to that s**t?'"

This is perfectly illustrated in the foreigner issue. "The only way we will reduce foreigners is if Safa tell us we have to do it," Phillips says. "Getting the clubs to do it, it has to go through an AGM, and that is like asking turkeys to vote for Christmas."

And so to the PSL CEO's radical plan for Bafana.

"I happen to agree with Parreira in many respects," he says.

"Though I would go for one reserve league, with no foreigners allowed and eight Under-20 players in each side, it's more realistic from a commercial point of view. We are basically starting eight years too late with this plan, though. It took the French 12 years to build their side for '98. I would take a squad of 22 local players, take them out of the PSL and have them training together for four years.

"We have to start thinking out of the box. You could lease them from the clubs and have them together 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I could arrange the PSL fixtures so every two weeks a league team gets a bye, and this Bafana XI plays them. We could also then play any number of internationals and not just stick to the Fifa calendar.

"Every country between now and 2010 will want to play in South Africa. You might struggle to qualify for the Afcon, but what is the priority, winning the Afcon, or doing well in 2010?

"Everyone will say it is impractical, but how do you know? It's no major departure from what rugby and cricket do in terms of contracting players."
