Wits transfer rumours

Mamelodi Sundowns former winger Lucas Sebona has dismissed media reports that he has signed with Wits University.

The speedy Sebona, who rose to stardom while still on the books of Moroka Swallows, confirms that he has been approached to join the Students.

He says negotiations are underway but no deal has been concluded.

Reports are saying, Lucas Sebona, formally of Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns, has just put pen to paper and signed a 2 year contract for the ambitious and newly promoted side, Wits.

Sebona says he is grateful to be playing again, “I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead, and I promise not to disappoint.”

Ajax Cape Town’s Moeneeb Josephs has just put pen to paper with Bidvest Wits having agreed on personal terms. He will play for them next season.

“You’ve called just at the right time. I’m in the club’s office and am about to sign the last of my initials on the contract, but let’s talk,”

“The club have agreed to give me the figures I was looking for and I’ve signed with them until 2011. The vision of this club is what has impressed me and the sponsor is serious about growing with the club.

“I’ve set my goals with them and they showed they are serious about me by buying out the remainder of my contract,” he says.

Josephs still had one season to run on his Ajax deal.

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper says his management team ProSport International were ‘world-class’ in their negotiations.

“I’m glad to be with ProSport International, they’ve really made this a smooth process and I’m ready to start a new challenge in my life,” Josephs adds.

Bidvest Wits FC have announced their new signings at a press briefing held at the club’s headquarters today (Thursday).

The announced the acquisitions of Moeneeb Josephs (Ajax Cape Town), Phil Evans (Supersport United), Rene Richards, Nhlanhla Kubeka (Both Kaizer Chiefs), Lucas Sebona, Sean Roberts (both Sundowns), Noah Chivuta (City Pillars), Boitumelo Moleyane (Bloemfontein Celtic) and Camara, a player brought in by assistant coach Eric Tinkler.

“One of my ambitions as a youngster was to become a soccer star, unfortunately, I could not achieve that dream, but with the signing of these nine players, I will be able to live that dream as we will be gunning for top honours, including winning the league next season,” said Bidvest and Wits chairman Cyril Ramaphosa.

Coach Boebie Solomons echoed Ramaphosa’s words and is confident that they can match the top sides next season.

“If you want to make a successful cake, you need good ingredients and I think we have good ingredients with the signings we have made,” said Solomons.

“It is now up to me to come with the right recipe to make sure that the club achieves its objectives. It’s not going to be easy, but I am sure we will challenge the top clubs, that is Chiefs, Sundowns, Pirates and Supersport for honours next season.

Bidvest Wits’ new signing Lucas Sebona is impressed with the coaching methods of Boebie Solomons.

The former Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns winger, says he is enjoying his football under the Mvela Golden League winning coach and is confident that Solomons will help him regain his best form.

“My confidence has come back now that Boebie has given me all the encouragement I need. I am inspired by him.

Highly-rated goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs has claimed yet another award, the 'keeper scooping BidVest Wits University's Player of the Year Award at the club's annual awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.

The former Ajax Cape Town minder kept his club in the game on several occassions as 'The Students' beat Orlando Pirates 3-2 in their last league match on the same day.

They then held their end-of-season awards ceremony after the match.

The winners on the evening were as follows:

Player of the Season: Moneeb Josephs

Players Player of the Season: Ashraf Hendricks

Most Improved Player of the Season: Ashraf Hendricks

Clubman of the Season: Eugene Phillips

Young Player of the Season: Wilson Shendzelani

Top goal-scorer of the Season: Marcos de Jesus

Wits just shot themselves on the foot when they fired the guy who brought them up from Mvela. and at some point the team was leading the PSL...lets see what Tinkler will do but i only see the fighting for survival next season

Apparently they are lining up a coach from overseas as they dont think Tinkler is ready yet...
